Not to often I just sit there and put myself in the person's shoes and decide what I would do. I analyze the situation through the question and try to figure out the type of person who is asking the question and the person they may be having a problem with. Or if I have been through a similar or exact situation I use that.

What are you talking about? I think people do it when they aren't sure of what you are looking for in an answer.
