On-demand is great...I used it when I lived in Germany. You don't have a storage tank, so it's definitely more cost-effective. However, you will want to get one per room...i.e., one for each bathroom, one for the kitchen, one for the laundry. If you like REALLY hot water to wash your clothes and dishes in, you'll need the larger unit. You need a separate, fused electrical box for each as well...so it may add up $$$'s...front-end.

On demand is harder & more expensive to install.

They are more efficient because you do not store a tank of hot water and you get instant hot water so you will use a little less water.

If you remain in the home for many years they might pay you back plus you get the benefits of a better system.

We will be using them in the home we are getting ready to build.

They are much more efficient, but they are also harder to install.

I believe their installation entails tearing your walls out to install a unit behind every hot water source, with the added trouble of running the electricity and plumbing to all of it. It seems to me like it would be like installing a water heater for every faucet, except harder because you have to tear a wall out to do it.

we have installed 7 of these in the last few houses i've built. takes about 10 mins to install. dont get one for every bathroom get a "whole house" heater. cost depends on the BTU's u buy for the unit. mine in my house is 180,000 btu does the whole house, we have 3 bathrooms, can run the dishwasher take 3 baths and wash clothes and never run out of hot water...cost me about $750.00 for unit and plumbing was no extra, HVAC man has to vent it. u can get one that goes on the outside and needs no venting.

Cheaper faster...more to install and colder than conventional tank systems...but great results long term...
