When a guppy is about to give birth you will notice a large dark mark (gravid spot) just above her anal fin. From there it should only be a couple of days at most. She will also usually try to find the safest place in the tank to have her fry.

I just had a guppy that gave birth. They are bigger than the other guppies and they don't hang around with the other fish. They go off by themselves and just kind of sit around.

they get really fat and their bottoms start looking black.. when they are fixing to in a few hours their gills pump like crazy. I recommend going ahead and getting a small breeding tank that will float in your aquarium. It sperates the mother from the other fish, and the mother from the babies when they are born.. If she is not seperated, the little ones will be eaten.

When she starts to square off its a sure sign she is going to be having them any day. Squaring off means her belly will start to look kind of sqaure. When you see it you should be able to tell.

Oh and all females have a gravid spot so dont just go by that.

A puppy giving birth?

I'm sure you mean a dog.

They get kind of restless, don't really want to be left alone.

But, she knows what she is doing and you really shouldn't interfer unless there is something wrong.
