If I was on the England team I would be so fed up hearing about Wayne and his bloody foot. There are other players on the England team and they work just as hard to train etc.
Wayne is not the be all and end all of the team surely!
It must be very disheartening for the other players, and it can't be very motivating to hear that if Wayne doesn't make it they don't stand so much of a chance!

Am I just being a big girl over all this or do others agree????

Do you think they might be making such a big deal about it so if we lose, they can use him and his foot as some kind of scapegoat??

Rooney's probably the most overrated player at the moment and England's media exposure will only put more pressure on the players. Rooney or no, England won't win the World Cup. There are just too many teams out there better than them. Heck. I don't even remember the last time they beat Sweden.

You are completely right, England doesn't stand or fall with or without Rooney; They have ,like all other teams 30 players in Germany and all of them are responsible to book results. Like Ronaldhinjo in the Brasilian team. There is also Kaka, Roberto Carlos, Rubiera... etc. The foot from Rooney.... it seems they want to make the foot of God, like they did in time with the hand of God from Maradonna. But that hand worked. Let's wait and see if the foot of God will work also.

Not necessarily with Wayne, but with the media's fascination with him and the England fans who think that they're a lock to win the WC.

Beckham must be old news across the Big Pond.

Good points. But the team does need his presence on the field. The world knows who he is, by him being on the field will draw attention away from other players that could score or help score a goal. The guy is a good player, and there is no doubt that if he can play, he could help the team more than another guy who has yet to prove himself.
