I am trying to visit my husband who is stationed there. We need to find the best deal as we plan to fly back and forth often.

Depending on where you are in South Carolina, it might be cheaper to drive to Jacksonville, FL or Raleigh, NC and fly Southwest Airlines.
The cheapest adult rate from Jacksonville to San Diego is $153 plus taxes. From Raleigh/Durham to San Diego, it is $163 plus taxes. The fully refundable tickets are about $300. Assuming that you might not get the cheapest rate depending on when you travel, perhaps.. $200 each way.. or $400 total.

Orbitz.com lists the cheapest flights from Charleston (CHS) to San Diego (SAN) as being on Northwest Airlines for $400 roundtrip plus taxes, and most other carriers being more than $500 (i just plugged in some random dates in August).

So unless you can get one of the best fares on Southwest Air and the travel time/cost to either Raleigh or Jacksonville is acceptable, your best bet i find will most likely be on Northwest Airlines, but shop around. If you can be more flexible with your dates, you can look at the Southwest schedule to see which days and flight times are cheapest. And if you plan on flying frequently, you can sign up for the southwest rapid rewards program, where you can earn a free flight after flying 8 round trips in 2 years (or you can earn credits through car rentals, their Visa card, etc).

Find the nearest Southwest airport. For example..Jacksonville FL
You might find driving a couple of hundred miles saves you 600 dollars
