U2 was formed in Dublin, Ireland on September 25, 1976. According to the story, Larry Mullen, Jr. posted a note on his school bulletin board looking for musicians, and the original band met in his kitchen that afternoon. Mullen was 14 at the time. The original lineup was Mullen on drums, Adam Clayton on bass guitar, Paul Hewson on vocals, Dave and Dik Evans on guitar, and two other friends, Ivan McCormick and Peter Martin. The group would later adopt the names Feedback and The Hype.
