Don't do it if you have never done it before. Depending on the age of the car you may have the old fr-12 or the new 134a. They are not compatible. there is a low side and a high side. If you connect to the high side the can could explode - bad for you and the car. You need a set of guages to measure both the high and low as your cooling comes from the pressure drop. Too much freon, not enough pressure drop poor cooling.

if its r-134 system, find the a/c lines and you will see 2 caps you will need to put your freon into the smaller valve (low side a/c line) caps can be both black or blue and red red it high side (dont mess with it, you could blow up the freon can)

Usually they are indicated by a red/pink,and a blue knob running along the refrigerant lines. But you should not attempt to fill, or release these gases. Very dangerous, have a mechanic look at it for you.
