The web offers a ton of useful advice. Ignore the naysayers and follow your dream!

I like the part about starting with a drummer. Seems like some sound advice. Just be prepared to have to work hard to make this happen. Promotion is a challenging matter that's critical to a band's success. Skill is an important criteria, but remember your band is your second family. Make sure you're compatible, too.

Best of luck!

Choose people that have similar tastes in music as you but vary a bit, that way you get a taste of all types of music. Set one day a week to start then as the band progresses and grows set aside two days a week.
Always listen to other band member ideas even if you dont think they are good ones and try them, youd be surpirsed what comes out of 4 or 5 people with musical talent.
never argue about stupid stuff (like band names) and never put One person in charge. a band is a "group" where groups sit down and make decisions.
hope this helps you out..by the way our band name is Flaw-636

when picking a name you dont have to take alot of time doing it because if you do go professional chances are you will go thru the name picking process once again.

you can also place want ads...drummer wanted..etc in local stores

1. make sure that all of your bandmembers are committed
2. if you're serious about making it big...
a. have a sound that is new, but not so unidentifiable that it's just weird
b. advertise, advertise, advertise... invite your friends over to watch you guys play when you actually have some original stuff to play.
3. i can't stress how important it is to practice constantly and try to come up with original material

Try to make a good name, not something srttupid like six chix. When your choosing members make sure they fit your criteria:
nice, can play well. all thet stuff ect.

DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT make it a new stupid Panic at the disco type band, try some punk music :)

don't be afraid to start a band with people whom are at the same level of musical skill as you are. you can grow musically together.
you can find good musicians an a concert or in the music department at school.
good luck

Idolize melody, there is enough screaming and grief in the modern bands. Mix pianos with guitars.

Spend more time thinking of a name rather than writing material.

Don't pick people to be in it because they're your friends only or they're good musicians only. Find people who are compatable with you as friends but have musical talent. It leads to less drama.
