Am into the second year of doing the same-- I'm afraid the monster is like Johnson Grass!! ANY piece of root starts the cycle all over again---- cut it back as hard as you can-- let new growth begin-- then Roundup the heck out of it-- then repeat in a few days--then keep a watch on it-- and Roundup it again!! I wimped out so that's why I'm doing it again this year.
good luck

You try getting roundup and spraying it onto the leaves (try not to get it into your eyes). If it is a well-established vine, cut it down to the ground, then any new shoots that come up can be sprayed with round-up. There is a tough brush and vine version of Round-Up I believe.

Get a mattock and dig out every root. You can do this over time, because doing it in one day is exhausting. Dispose of the roots away from your yard.

you need to pull it out by the roots a good pair of gloves helps this and it's cheap! but if not try a weed killer that is great for veg and lawns just kep it on the vine!

I gave up trying to dig them out. I just bought trellis's for them and let them go. Keep them trimmed up, though.
