i had my rats put to sleep, and when this girl that i work with found out. she said "ew! good! i'm glad that they are dead! they didn't deserve to live!" that was the day after they died that she said that. why are ppl such a$$holes?

She probably is one of those people who think that the only things worth being concerned about are the latest video on MTV, what Paris is wearing, and if Brittney and Kevin are having another baby.
Cheer up. There are tons of us out there who understand that no matter how small, all animals are deserving of a great life, and people who love them. Think of it this way - maybe some day that girl will hear someone say that about her! At any rate, she will never know the joys of sharing her life with animals, since she is so shallow. Fitting punishment, I say.
And I'm sorry about your rats. They make such great pets, and are so sweet! Think about happier times with the little guys, and try not to be too sad.

I'm sorry for your loss.....and I'm going to answer your question as to how I see it.
People that don't own animals have a harder time understand the kind of bond that people can have with their pets. To them, it's not really a big deal if a pet such as a rat dies. I'm sure to you, they meant a lot to you because you took care of them and played with them (I've learned that psychologically, a bond really does form between pet/owner just by taking care of them).........but to others, they can't see themselves getting attached to such animals.
Anyways, as an owner of many different kinds of pets, I can see where you're coming from. If people are being insensitive about it, I don't think they're bad people, I just think they don't understand what it feels like.

i had a pet rat named chedders and when he died he was old was like 5 years old and that is a very long life span for a rat but eney way people just dont under stand the bond betwenn ur rat and they have to say some thing rude cause they think there dirty there not there just like a hamster and every body else will loke at hamsters and say how cute well the look like rats with out tails

In college I had two rats, Mickey and Tigger. They were wonderful pets.
Mickey got old and died and then I had to put Tigger to sleep when he got a tumor. People were not sympathetic like when a "cute" pet dies.
I guess they will never know how nice a pet rat can be!!!!

I dont know either but i had a dog for 15 years and when we put her down my fiance didnt even acknowledge that i was sad:-/ I feel for ya

because they are jealous of you that you had rats, and they are very mean. i would hate that person i swear to death forever and ever!! i really feel bad for you, i'm really sorry.
