Hell is misunderstood by most Christians of today. This is largely due to the blending of the Christian faith with ancient mythology like that of the Greeks. They had a place called the Underworld that was ruled by a god named Hades(another word for Hell nowadays) and it was where all of the dead went. Now we have this concept of Hell being underground with fire and it is where evildoers go and it is supposedly ruled by Satan. However, if you read the Bible, it will tell you that the devil does not "rule" over Hell or the fiery pit as people sometimes refer to it. Hell in the Bible was also called Gehenna which was an actual place where the corpses of those who had diseases were burnt to prevent spread of disease. No the devil does not and will not rule over a fiery pit where evil people go, but he will be cast into the fire along with those who he has decieved. He is not a ruler at all, but only the chief of sinners. Also, this fire does not go on and on tormenting the souls of the dead as some have come to teach. This pit of fire is meant to destroy evil altogether. When that is accomplished, there will be no need for the pit. Much like Gehenna, it is meant to eradicate the didease of sin forever. So those who are judged as evildoers do not "live" forever in the pit, but they are sent to their "second death" as the Bible refers to it, destruction. But those who are judged worthy, through Jesus, do live forever in a place of peace where trouble and sin are no more.

I guess it depends on your religious beliefs. Most belive that hell is where the devil and demons live and where you go after you die if you do not believe in Jesus, some believe you will go there if you are just an evil person, regardless of your beliefs. I've heard some that believe we are living in hell on earth and that everyone will go to heaven once they die. I've also heard that there is no hell only a place called purgatory where you sit and wait until someone "prays" you into heaven. I've never heard that you get buried in hell though. That's a new one.

Usually first a person would go to purgatory in order to purge themselves of their sins. I don't think anyone goes straight to hell. But you don't know how long you will be in purgatory. If someone is truly sorry for their sins they can be forgiven. But hell is where the devil is, besides there trying to make people do bad things. Other people have other beliefs, this is just what I have learned.

I hope that helped, though. Four years in theology classes at a Catholic school must have had some influence on me.

Neither, hell can only exist momentarily in your life because the choices you make are dead ends its a mentality that goes nowhere , remember if there was a devil in opposition to god you would not know about it something evil like that would hide its existence not let it be known all that stuff is just propaganda to keep people in line since the beginning of time people have trouble thinking for themselves so the people in power thought for them God wants you to be happy and everybody opinion changes in relation to the things going on with them at any given moment ! THINK FOR YOURSELF the devil is the ignorance in the world !!

Hell is the apparently opposite of heaven, with the fire, the devil, and the punishement. You go there when you're soul is burdened with sin, and it takes years to repent what you have done, so you pay for it in hell. You get buried in the ground when you are dead no matter what. Unless you're family decides to keep you're ashes or something for keepsake.

I don't think Hell is in a particular location. Hell is where you end up if you do not have a personal relationship with God. It doesn't have anything to do with being "good" or "bad". Even God-forgiven people still do bad things. The difference is that we've been forgiven. Even in the Bible it says that good works will not get you into Heaven. The Bible says to believe on the name of Jesus and you will be saved.

Okay, whoever told you Hell is the place you are buried is sadly mistaken. Hell is a place of damnation that people who are sinful and do not repent go to. It has nothing to do with you being buried because your soul goes there not your body.

I read somewhere that Hell was the name of the place where they throwed dead animals after sacrification. And over time, it has transformed into a tool to scare people to do what the "religion" tells them to do. "if you are not good, you end up in hell"
If you are religious, your particular religion and branch of religion will have the answere of what hell is. And not all of them have hell.

you are getting many disrespecful answers and allow me to clarify on this matter.

When you die you either go to heaven or hell.

Hell is made of people that are buried upside down. if you are bad you are buried upside down so that when you rise after 3 days like Jesus you start digging down to hell.

now this is very imortant. you want to be good. so that you are buried looking up. in this case you will go up to heaven and be given a cloud for you to ride and everything.
