Probably because the US is the second-largest producer of oil in the world and the oil companies effectively block any information and/or strongarm auto manufacturers to avoid building vehicles to run on the stuff.

This is just a guess but everything always seems to boil down to politics and money.

It is in Canada - almost all Cop cars, taxi's etc are on LPG.
