i had a rat (named keagan) that when i came to feed him one day, his feet were falling off and his face was sliding off (gross, i know). i took good care of him, fed him every day, gave him water, played with him...
he was in a good cage with safe hidey-places and he "lived" with his brother. they never fought, so i know that his brother didn't hurt him. they were both 4 years old and when i got them when they were babies, they were labeled as "feeder rats". i knew that keagan was getting old, he was blind and he couldn't hear very well, but does anyone know why he started falling apart? (by the way, i got him put to sleep. i thought it was the decent thing to do.)
i just want 2 kno what happened to him.

by the way, i got his brother put to sleep too. they were such good friends and i knew that he would be heart broken without his buddy. and he was showing signs of aging too (his vision and hearing was going as well).

Feeder rats are often not in the best health to begin with- often massively in-bred or just weak from the beginning- animals they could not sell as regular pets.

Yours might have had a disease, vitamin deficency, any of a dozen circulatory problems, a connective tissue illness, etc.

Sometimes these things just happen, sadly.

Uh, sounds like a severe vitamin deficicency. It's possible that he was too old to eat properly.
