Lol good question. We see a lot of youngsters on the internet. It is ok really for them to be on but quite frustrating for the people who are more mature and knowledgeable. I'd say chatrooms are so full of spam, it isn't really that great anymore... no matter what your age is.

I think that you should chat on the net, but within certain limits. I am a very curious person and am always looking up things and seeing what people's opinions are. Nothing's wrong with that.

However, I wouldn't say anything in a chat room that you wouldn't say in front of your parents. I also would never let anyone know anything personal about you such as your name, age, social security number, town that you live in, phone number, address, or any information that may lead to someone guessing your passwords or financial information. You don't know the reasons why people are on the web chatting with you. They may be a perfectly innocent. Or they could be someone that isn't. It's not only the pervs on the net, but you could also meet someone that may be a thief. I don't know how someone got a hold of my credit card # and charged $3000. All I know is that someone did do it. You just can't trust people anymore.

Maybe if your parents provided a list of things that you couldn't tell people or view over the net and you OBEYED it you'd get to chat and they wouldn't worry quite so much.

Yes. I'm a grown adult and I don't much care for chatting on the internet. Its too easy to lie. Except for this website, I do no chatting, and even here the only chatting is a quick responce if someone wanted to comment on a post I made. There is not instant messenger on my computer, never will be. I have a few (very few!) people I talk to on an online game, but they have proved that they can follow my rules. Don't flirt with me, don't cuss, don't be hurtful just because. There are good people out there, but you gotta be really careful about talking to anyone online. You'll see a person online in a totally different way than in reality. Lots of people make up wierd things and say them, just to get a reaction. I'm 26 and sometimes I think I'm too young to be on the internet! Age doesn't really matter, people can hurt you or lie to you at any age. But I guess 12 seems young because at your age, its still so very easy to believe (and want to believe) anything told to you. If you are having issues at home, be very careful of who you type to about them. Alot of predators lure females in by sounding all nice, interested, and sympathetic. Its not just young kids, its college girls too. Even old women get scammed! So just be careful of who you type to and what you say. If it feels like you like them as more than just friends, that is when its going too far.

yup- cuz you wouldnt know any better if some creepy guy was grabbing your IP and tracking you down and following you and planning to rape and murder you!

There are plenty of people you can talk to in reality, its just that you probably feel more comfortable when who you're talking to cant look directly at you- and that might make YOU feel more secure but it lets whoever is on the other end of the conversation know you're vulnerable and they wont hestitate to try and fool you into thinking they're you're bestfriend.
I hope you live a long happy life and never get kidnapped and abused and murdered. Think about your future- if you dont now, you wont have one.

Yes, 12 year olds should not be allowed onto uncontrolled and unmoderated chat rooms, which are most public chat rooms. There are chat rooms that are secured from perverts and others trying take advantage of kids ( but I think you have to pay to beacome a member). Children under 14 should only be allowed on controlled and monitored internet with access to controlled and monitored chat rooms

No I don't think it's ok.
And my kids will not be allowed.
Do you stand on the corner and talk to strangers?
It's the same thing.
Not only is there a danger of meeting a predator (you probably wouldn't know one if you met one EVEN HERE ON ANSWERS) ...but there's also the danger of what you're exposed to.

Absolutely no, it's not right, and i think the parents of kids like you that allow it are stupid naive and irresponsible.

I think that if you do it responsibly, it's okay. Talk to your friends, etc. But don't go onto public chat sites. That's where the perverts hang out. They trick girls just like you, smart and mature, into believing they're talking to other kids and prey on you. Just be safe.
