Dig out the old one & then lay turfs or sow seed. Water it. Keep the birds off it. Watch it grow. Spend the rest of your days mowing it!

Clear all of the old grass, weeds, etc. out. Till the soil to about a depth of 3-6", spread some top soil with some fertilizer in it, then get the appropriate grass seed for the area (high sun, sun/shade mix, all shade). Then water the area twice a day for at least 3 weeks until the grass begins to come in, then at least once a day for probably another 3-4 weeks.

And try to make sure you plant and get it to come in before the temperature goes above 80 degrees, because it really won't grow once the temperature goes above that. Best time to plant, if you haven't started already, is in the fall.
