My cousin is not pregnant yet, she plans to get pregnant next year with her first child.
She already bought a scrapbook, a photo album, a baby memento box and books on pregnancy. She also picked out a crib bedding set and nursery decorations that she really wanted and bought them now incase they weren't available next year. She hasn't purchased furniture yet.
All the stuff she bought is in colors for a boy or girl, she said she is just preparring and is really excited about starting a family.
Has anyone you known done this?

I think when a woman gets that motherly instinct inside its hard to control. She is really excited that her and her husband are planning to have kids.
Its not weird but I think that it can be very depressing if she finds out that they cannot have kids in the near future or ever....

Well, I received few baby related items as my wedding gift. I can understand her excitement, but looks like she's gone too far. Sometimes, preparation is good, such as people start to shop for stuff when the stuffs are on sale and they start to try. As a cousin, I would rather tell her start planing for retirement or set up an education fund rather than going way too far on spending money.

I wish all parents put that much thought into their child b4 she/he was born. I think it's a hobby thing for her. I would just be afraid to do that because "I've had infertility treatment" it would be to heartbreaking if she did not get pregnant and had a perfect bedroom ready and no baby 4 her hard work. i HAD A MISCARRIAGE in 2002 "fertility treatment pregnancy" and I already had baby items it was TERRIBLE to see them after we had lost that baby. I gave everything away to a women's shelter.

Some people would consider it a curse. My friend and her husband didn't decorate until after their baby was born, their family believes that buying clothes and decorating curses the health of the baby.
Sounds like your cousin is obsessed, that in itself is not very emotionally healthy.

That's kind of weird, that's really planning ahead.. I can see if she were like 3mos. or so but she isn't even pregnant .... Tell her to relax until the time comes before she gets too excited and than hurt.

it is a little sad about you cousin since, she isnt pregnant yet. my Dad wont let me buy anything so that I dont get my hopes up in case something goes wrong with my pregnancy.

my sister in law did this, she ended up miscarrying the first try and was sad, but she did eventually have the baby and used the stuff she bought. It isnt that weird to buy stuff that you would like to use, but it would be weird if she were setting up a nursery.

It is a little weird, but not that much. We have a room that will take a few changes but it is ready for our children because it is all done in Disney stuff so it is not made for a boy or girl.

I wouldn't say it's weird, but she sure is putting a lot of pressure on herself to live by some set-in-stone life schedule. If that's what happens then great. But if her vision of her life doesn't happen she's going to be miserable.

I don't think it's too unusual. She might be a little out of the normal range. But it's her interest and hobby and i see no harm. Everyone is a little 'weird' sometimes in their own way.
