Do you think things will better in the future? i have always believed it...but I also know I am a dreamer who believes in fantacies

I am a foreigner who lived in South Africa (Cape Town and Jo'burg) for quite a while and did not leave by choice. My visa simply ran out. I have missed it ever since. I always compare it to a cure that soothes a longing in me, I can't say why, but there's no place like it. And I would personally give anything to be allowed to live there again.
In my opinion crime, violence and poverty are problems you are faced with everywhere you go, so you might as well confront them in a place you love rather than one you can just about bear. Go back! South Africa needs people who appreciate her and are willing to struggle for her.

I also work in a foreign country. Korea is considered very safe and also I thought so for a very long time. But crime is everywhere and here as well. The Koreans however keep it secret. Lemme explain. On the 7 and 9 o' clock news you won't hear of any crimes. Lots of " we are the champions" and " Korea number one". Then late at night the bad news are shown.

We all love South Africa and we all wanna go home, but we have to understand that Rome wasn't built in a day. Things won't change now. It'll take time. But we have to do our bit. I take my kids to SA every year and speak about SA every day.

Just keep on believing. And to answer your question...Yes, it is worth it. Our beautiful country is always worth it. We can endure the bad to enjoy the good. Things will be better.

And you're not the only one.........dreamer, that is.

I've grown up in South Africa. I know what the struggle is like, the crime, the poverty etc...we all get used to it and we all have to just take precautions. Everywhere you go you have to take precautions. In South Africa, its not always safe but i feel safe in my home and with my family and friends. I could never imagine leaving South Africa and don't ever intend to. I don't know if things will get better for South Africa, if the government doesn't sort themselves out then no we will not be better in the future! People who commit crimes are getting free and they are going to keep committing crimes until justice is done. Why not murder somebody, nothing happens to them if they are caught! Why not rape a girl, it will finalise to being the girls fault because she wanted it because of what she wore! This is how South Africa is and i think the government needs to sort our law out and make it stronger! You will immediately see a difference in our crime rate, poverty etc.

SA is still the best place to be. The crime & everything else are all over. Everything is worth it. Things have already started looking better. We will be hosting the 2010 World Cup. Doesn't that count for something?

I am from Durban living in the U.S. I miss S.A, friends and family very much, but things are not getting any better when it comes to safety. My mom just told me that a family friend was shot and killed in his house in Tongaat last night. His wife was stabbed, but lived. The crooks took nothing..what a waste of life. It's incidents like these that not make me want to go back after living such a care free life here.

I lived in the UK for 3 years, I never felt safe.
I lived in the US for 6 weeks, I hated it.
I now live in SA, I feel safe and relaxed.
We do have shootings and stabbings, but they are not different from the ones I heard of from abroad.

That's the attitude I've got towards my own country.

South Africa will always be a challenge... but it has the most promising chance compared to all other African countries.
