It depends. Many women keep their maiden names because they are professionals and are known by that name. Many women keep their maiden names because that is part of their identity. The difficulties that can develop involve legal matters like credit and the confusion that often surrounds having children with last names that differ from their mother (or their father or even each other.) It is a personal decision, not really one to be made lightly.

I really don't think a man should take his wife's name. I, personally, would view that as kinda feminine and I like my men more traditional than that. But as far as the women keeping their name, I think that should just be left up to personal preference. I plan on taking my fiance's name and using it in my daily life but I am also keeping my last name. I'm not doing the hyphenation, I'm just adding it on to the end. That way I don't have to write out my name-his name when I sign things unless I want to. I like my maiden name, I think its a good solid name and I don't really want to give it up....It's mine! =)

It depends. Some keep the maiden name for professional reason. Others keep the maiden name with the last name.

I'm as liberated as they come, but when I see a married couple with different last names, I always wonder what they are lacking. Just being honest. I am honored to share the same last name with my husband. He was willing to change to my last name - but I wanted his.
Women usually take their maiden name and use it as their middle name. So if your name was Amy Beth Buttercup and you married Fred Wigglesworth, your name would be Amy BUttercup Wigglesworth.

If women want to keep thier maden name, or if the husband wants to take her name, its all cool. It now the 21st century, so we should look at new way of doing things. I don't see a problem either way.

well i know im a woman and i should be like absolutly if they want to they should, but i honestly think they should take their husbands name, i feel like their name will sort of show a union between the two if she takes her husbands last name. shows a connection, even though some people might disagree with me and think its not important but when i get married im gonna take my husbands last name.

Yeah, I think they should. That whole business of women taking men's name just smacks of the old-fashioned idea that these women have become the mens' property. This is the motherfuckin' 21st Century!
