You should follow the directions in your notebook manual.
To be on the safe side, I say LCD cleaner. Some of the best is the Monster cleaner. I know, Monster Cables are overpriced. But for $19 you get a spray bottle that can clean just about any screen, lasts for a long, long time, and also comes with a scratchproof microfiber cloth.
Get the Monster stuff- very potent, and the value (ironically and atypically) is great.

Dampen a soft cotton cloth with a little rubbing alcohol and clean with light, circular motions, applying just enough pressure to get the grim off. DO NOT use this method if the screen has an anti-reflective coating on it, there are other methods for cleaning screens of that type. You'll be able to see the coating if you hold the display at an angle and get a bluish tinted coating on it.
