a midwife is more personal than a doctor, but they are less likely to give you an epidural. my friend had her baby with a midwife, and was happy with the experience, and I had a doctor with my son. I had an amazing epidural, my friend had her daughter natural.

Here is a way to save $$$ at least on blood screenings:

Check with your health food stores in your area. Here in The Chicagoland - Northwest Indiana the labs that do the blood work for all of the area hospitals and doctors give complete blood screenings at local grocery stores and health food stores regularly. As I don't have health insurance I saved over $600 thanks to my doctor letting me know about this!

My sister has used a midwife with home birth many times, all of her children are healthy and happy and there were no complications with any birth.
