The BBC is a fraud, we pay a tv licence every year which goes up every year for what? rubbish tv programmes... and never anything to watch at the weekend!!! nothing but repeats or stupid depressing sitcoms... Why don't they get adverts like all the others tv channels and save the public some of their hard earned cash?

I've seen TV, listened to radio and surfed the web for years.
I can honestly say that I have yet to find anyone that does it better the BBC.
They are probably the best news organisation for keeping reporting and editorialising apart. There is always some attempt to give background and both sides of a story. In the UK, both Labour and Conservatives take turns complaining of bias - so they are probably doing this right.
The BBC are often sort out by international groups to give interviews on their side of the story. The first link below shows a news story about the Taleban - do you think they would have approached any other news organisation in any other country and actually been able to tell their story?
It is this kind of reputation that makes the BBC the most respected news organisation IN THE WORLD. Not only does that give the UK prestige, but it actually helps us when we operate abroad as the BBC reputation for trust and decency rubs off on every Brits when we travel.
The Motto of the BBC is "Let Nation speak peace unto Nation." Not only do I think it apt, but I believe the high ideals of the BBC go some way to making it true.
For those that complain over funding, I suggest they go to the US and watch the TV there. After a couple of days you'll appreciate what the BBC offers.

The BBC had until a few years ago an enviable reputation for unbiased news reporting - this is what you are referring to, not dramas or licences. Since the Wilson government politicians have seen the importance of the BBC, and PMs have played the media, just as Tony Blair does now. I still believe and I'm sure most people, especially from oother countries believe that the Beeb is streets ahead of any other news service. Time and again one hears how important the World Service was to hostages, troops, etc
An excellent read is John Simpson's book Strange Places, Questionable People, he spent 30 years reporting for the BBC and gives a candid picture - i heartily recommend this book.

Up till about 4 or 5 years ago I thought the BBC was neutral, unbiased. Then I started noticing how not all the story was being reported, watching ITV and other news channnels filled in often important bits omitted by the BBC. I think they've got worse. As long as there's some anti-west, pc constricted bleeding hearts angle they'll push it for all its worth. Anything else is either edited out or more dangerously, manipulated to make their own point, or preference. That's a real shame for such an organisation.

The BBC say they don't advertise. When the recent Big Brother started, the Radio 1 DJ's didn't stop talking about it (Free advertising for a Channel 4 programme).
I think someone upstairs at the BBC told the dj's to shut up about it.
As we all know the BBC never miss a trick to jump onto a band-wagon.
When Margret Thatcher was in power, she had some of the BBC executives replaced (After they tried to give an accurate view of the government) with her own 'Yes' men.
Of course its biased it's government controlled.
The license alone is supposed to bring in an income of £3 BILLION a year.
I think people should refuse to pay for it.

The BBC is notoriously biased as it has many backers and insiders from the Labour Party. The most obvious recent example being that they were the only channel to not cover any of the 2 scandals that hit the Labour Party recently, i.e. The Affair and the (at the time) home secretary releasing numerous dangerous immigrants into the community.

It is generally seen as unbiased, but has had controversy, i.e. the Hutton Inquiry, in which the BBC accused the government of "sexing up" a dossier, with Dr David Kelly as their source. Kelly later commited suicide, leading to the investigation.

The BBC, like many other large organisations, is run by the men at the top in the suits.........they decide what the interviewers ask, etc.
You cant blame the people asking the questions - it's their job!!!!!

They should. Most of the time they get it right. There are times when it all goes horribly wrong like the scientist who topped himself over a BBC report. Oh well Nobody's perfect.
