I had that happen to AdAware a while back. So I manually ran my Norton AntiVirus and it found a trojan (so much for Norton). After quarantining the virus, I restarted the PC and AdAware ran fine.

just install program called "Microsoft anti spyware" it's free and excellent.
you can download it from official website:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
just give it one try and watch.
