I would personally recommend a community bank. They will have the lowest fees and the best customer service. If good customer service is not important (you do everything online, etc.) and you need access to branches all over the country, I'd recommend US Bank. I travel a lot and I bank (and work) at a community bank. I think they have the most to offer, but that's just my $.02. By the way, I'm not just saying that because I work for one. I've always banked here, so it worked out nicely when I got a job with them. :)

RE:
What's the best bank to open an account with?
I would like to open a new bank account but am indecisive as to which bank would be best for me. I obviously don't want to pay fees for every little single thing. Who do you bank with?

Don't get a credit union account unless you have good credit. And with other banks, depending if your on ChexSystems or Telecheck they probably won't open an account for you.

I haven't really found a great bank, but I can tell you not to bank with Bank of America... they are very strict with fees. Most banks offer free checking with direct deposit though. Bank North isn't too bad if they are in your area.

I like Bank of America. They have different accounts to chose from and they have Keep The Change. I use to bank with Amsouth but, I moved and they weren't big here. I had an account with a credit union and it isn't any different.

I prefer credit unions to banks. I use ArVest bank, Northern Schools Federal Credit Union, and Auburn University Credit Union.

Washington Mutual, if you have one un your area. DON'T use U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America. Money disappears from these places.

Try a credit union. Just make sure they belong to the Co-Op Network, because then you can use ATM's across the country for free.
