I had a hip replacement and soon to have a knee replacement (I'm 44....long story)......I was told that pain is all in my head; if I THINK I'm in pain, I will be. I say that's bullsh*t.........what do all of you think? Seriously.

By the way, I've been given nearly every narcotic or pain pill and NONE of them have helped one bit. I went into the hip replacement with a good attitude but was sadly mistaken when I woke up to incredible pain! I was told that it was my "condition" that made it nearly impossible to control the pain.....I have avascular (aseptic) necrosis.........what do you think about narcotics not working at all???????

yes and no , if you are real disciplined or have a great imagination ,you can distract yourself or get hypnotized to not feel the pain ,but from personal experience and surviving injuries in a car accident , those people are so full of sh%YT, they have sympathy but not empathy for you, and have no idea ,how real your pain is ,and just cause they read a damn book ,they think that they are experts, and feel free, to invalidate, your physiologically real pain ,and will never appreciate ,what you are experiencing, until they find themselves ,whining and crying in agony ,that they had previously told you ,was all in your head, technically all reality is in your head ,that is where our brains process info, that does not negate reality, anymore than it negates pain and you let your ignorant friends or doctors or coworkers or whomever you know ,that they need to keep their fallicious logic to themselves, and kiss your @$$, I hope you feel better soon my friend, narcotics do not work for eveyone, that is why some people with certain painful conditions are trying to legalize medical marijuana

Like, technically, yes. Your nerves send messages to your brain that you are in pain. If you are hurt, but they stop sending electrolytes, you stop feeling pain. So technically, its in your head. Now, I agree mostly with the belief that you think pain; did you know that if you are in pain and you experience worse pain the aforementioned pain goes away? You brain focuses only on the worse pain and you no longer feel the previous. Also, different people have different pain tolerence levels.

All pain is processed in the brain but starts at the nerves in the body. so you really feel it in the brain not they body. you mind knows the pain is coming from a certin place so thats where your brain sez you feel it. you could try a healer, i know healers can heal and remove pain. my friend is one and i know it works as long as the healer knows what he/she doing. also a person that understands there brain can block or turn off pain.

Your brain registers pain. Thats why if you break your spine you can't feel your legs. Your head is cut off from the nerves. So, pain is in both head and body.

Pain is a fact of mind over matter. If you keep the attitude that it won't be that bad, then it won't be that bad, but if you think it is awful, then it will be awful. I have had several broken bones & pulled muscles in my lifetime, and although I may have felt pain at first I could always shrug it off.

Philosophically speaking, everything we experience is our brain's interpretation of signals from sensors. In that sense, yes, it's all in our head.

But you're in pain, and philosophical discussions won't alleviate your discomfort.

PRACTICALLY speaking, studies have shown that people who use morphine to control pain only (NOT for recreation!) do not become addicted to it. Other studies have shown that most doctors UNDERmedicate their patients for pain. There is no reason for you to be in as much pain as you describe. Find a doctor who is not afraid to medicate sufficiently.

that is TOTAL CRAP. the only reason all the pain is in your head is if your head really hurts. duh. whoever told you that is DUMB.
