There is a really good product called Goo Gone. It's a necessary when you have kids! This product gts off stickers, make-up, oil, wet paint, scuff marks, shoe polish, tree sap, asphalt, candle wax, tape, glue, grease, crayons, gum, etc. For upholstery, apply Goo Gone to a clean cloth and blot the stain, repeating as necessary. (I usually just pour it directly onto the stain though). Clean the area with a little soap and water on a cloth, then follow up by rinsing with a clea cloth. Blot dry. It takes less than 5 minutes and stanins and sticky stuff are gone!

I have also heard of using ice to freeze the gum. Also, maybe try the cleaning spray, Simple Green. It gets out a ton of stuff.
