In my opinion, the threat of eternity in Hell is nothing more than that. What better way could there be for organized religion to "motivate" the people to do what they are told. Societies laws threaten us with prison if we do not follow the law. Organized religion must have a way to push their agenda, and this is a very powerful way to do it. Over thousands of years, religious authority, power, and thus wealth has been huge all over the world. Offering a reward (heaven) for following the agenda is not enough. People also follow religious agenda based on the fear of what will happen to them if they don't. Why would God set these rules? This agenda was established by men as a control mechanism for power and wealth. Every religion of the world has a different version of the "truth", and most every one of them pushes their individual version as factual, while downplaying the others as simply unenlightened. So many books, so many deciples, so many philosophies. How is it possible for any one religion to claim their version of truth as fact? Why would God place one particular deciple in any one regional place, with limited effective range, and simply play a cruel hoax on the remainder? Consider standing on Mars, peering at the tiny speck called Earth. You understand as you watch that this tiny speck has many many different religions, each of then touting their agenda as the "truth". Each of them having wealthy leaders, demanding money and certain behaviors from their followers? What would your thoughts be on that day? The only true "fact" is that as humans, we don't have any idea of the real spiritual "truth", but we will find out one day. And the very moment we find out, it's too late to tell anyone. Until my day comes, i will contribute to no religious agenda, and will worship the earth and it's creative beginnings as a whole. I will retain my freedom of thought and will follow no one. One last thought. There are over 4,200 documented religions in the world, each of them pursuing the same ultimate truth. If all non-Christians are doomed to eternity in Hell, 2/3 of the earth's population will be there waiting for me as I arrive. This is God's plan?

Love is a "loose term," and sometimes means punishment.
We punish our children when they do something wrong, especially if they do that over and over again.
Hell is a concept like Heaven. They spring from parent concepts of God and Evil. However, God's opposite is not Evil, it is "not-sharing." The opposite of Evil is "justice." God is like an ocean that generates objects and life forms. He's good at sharing. Evil is good at injustice.
Some people have experiences of past lives. We experience good and bad on earth; and some are smarter than others, or wealthier than others, or both. Data is not sufficient or conclusive, but some people believe in re-incarnation.
What is known is that we are "our products." And if there is a justice, let it be served, not by the will of God, but by the will of people. That we are responsible for our own acts, regardless.

God does not want you to go to Hell, you make that choice by rejecting His only begotten Son, Jesus. The only other way not to go to Hell is to live absolutely by the Mosaic Law as given to Moses on the Mount. Of course it is impossible to do that so why not just accept Jesus as your Lord and save all the hassle? It is simple and painless.
sbt3...He already has done something for you...God sent his only Son to die in your place so you do not have to worry about Hell. But then I guess you reject this notion as a myth so just let the world spin and continue. If you want to be sure then accept Jesus. The same for you others also who reject Jesus.

God has more than 1 character trait. God is also righteous (among many others). I've heard people ask "can God create a rock so big he can't move it"? The question itself is all wrong. God can not be different than his entire nature. Since God is righteous then sin can not exist in the prescence of God. (Why is it alright for God to be a jealeous God but not his creation?) There is none greater than God. God created the laws of our universe and he is the judge of those laws. In God's law he has prepared for his creation a defense before His court. That one and only defense is the only opportunity to live in God's/Christ's kingdom. Apart from that defense you are selecting for yourself where you want to spend eternity. God is not sending you to hell. Apart from that defense (Salvation through faith in the Annointed Lord Jesus) you are sending yourself. Ignorance of the law will be no excuse!

You know what? If God is really omniscient and omnipresent, then human beings have no more idea of what God is doing and thinking than ants do about the stock market.
This is just my opinion, but I believe that nobody knows what God is up to, so I don't worry about heaven or hell. If God loves me, he will do something loving for me when the time comes.

God sent His Son into the world to save us. We have a thing called "free will". He will NOT usurp our choices.
In His Word is recorded:
Acts 7:51
51: Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
But He also tells us:
Mark 16:15 &16
15: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
You make the call...choose this day whom you want to serve.
Jerimiah 21:18
:And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death."

He does not SEND you to hell... He has made a way of escaping hell and it is available to ALL... if you choose NOT to accept the provision... then you choose to go to hell.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that WHO-SO-EVER (that means anyone or everyone) believes in Him (Jesus) shall NOT perish but have eternal life.
Emphasis and comments are mine.

Because we choose to go there. God will not undo our choice. The best he does is to offer us a better direction. He is pained that we choose the other
