This may be not true. Some do not mind being forgotten.

These are the lone wolves. They would just as soon be left alone. There are also the hermits, who can do without human interaction.

But, yes, I agree that most humans want to be remembered, both now and later. As to why? All I can do is guess. For one reason, being remembered is a statement of importance. To be forgotten would lead one to feel unimportant. Just don't matter. Not worth the time it would take to remember. This is not good for self esteem.

Another reason is "to live forever." As long as someone is remembered, part of them is still making an impact on the living. To be forgotten is to die to the living.

I believe it's in or total make up being human. Our ultimate goal in life is to be appealing, find a mate, and procreate, for the main reason that we live on in our children. We don't like to be forgotten because in some way we failed what we set out to do.

Because it makes them feel less important in other people's life.
Ego is one thing that simply cannot be ignored.
Being forgotten conflicts with the ego.

no one wants to be forgotten because everyone's ultimate goal is to be remembered, if they realize it or not.....Whether someone wants to cure cancer or become a millionare, it is all for the same reason. what is the point of living if no one remembers that you lived?
