In humans it is usually referred to as Peer pressure when relatively non-violent and Mob instinct for more violent times and events.

In just everyday life, pedestrian traffic patterns are also somewhat controlled by the "heard instinct."

If you are just feeling alone or left out, the heard instinct is not what you seek. Belonging (as to a group) is the missing factor. You know your interests, find a group who shares these. By-the-way, that is how and why so many of us became Answerholics. This is our group. We belong. Feel Welcome?
