I think Volek has 8 weeks to make a case for himself. If he's really, really abyssmal, then Vince could take over sooner. I don't expect a Drew Brees-esque situation here, but Volek can remain the starter for a while. He's a 4 TD/4 INT-a-game kind of guy. He's high risk, high reward, and I'm not sure Jeff Fisher is the kind of coach who will put up with that very long.
I bet Vince Young gets about 4-5 touches a game in the early going, just to get his feet wet. Maybe goal-line packages, maybe some variation upon the option (which many people don't think can work in the NFL consistently).

I think it depends on the way the Titan season goes. It is very likely that Volek gets the whole season to run the show, especially if the titans are remotely contending. However, if the season gets out of hand I would not be surprised if Young got 2-4 games at the end of the season to get his feet wet (and help sell tickets for the next year).
Be interesting to see if Young gets the call early in the season if Volek gets hurt ...

Volek played well for McNair while he was injured. However, the Titans were still losing, which doesn't sell tickets. Even if he plays well and the Titans still lose, look for Vince to start around week 8 to help with ticket sales if nothing else.

It will be next year or later barring injury. Don't underestimate Volek...He is a quality QB and would start for any number of NFL teams. Young is VERY raw...much like Michael Vick was. There is a HUGE learning curve in the NFL particulary at QB. Even now ( 5 years into his career) Vick is still not close to the QB he can become. Don't get me wrong guys like Vick and Young will make some unbeleivable plays on sheer ability....but you win by knowing your offense inside and out..which takes time.

Once the Titans are completely out of contention for the playoffs (won't take long), Jeff Fischer will throw Vince in to get him some snaps.

Being a Jets fan, I hope Young doesn't start in Tennessee's first game of the season...
But I predict halfway through the year, Young will be waiting, watching and learning. Then, he explodes onto the field coming very close to being named offensive ROY.

Although this wouldn't be the best thing for the Titans, I can see him starting Young very early on in the season. I thought they should've kept McNair to be a mentor for him, since apparently they are close friends.

Steve McNair became the starter final season. He became traded to Baltimore and Billy Volek took over. Then they signed Kerry Collins and he did no longer do squat. Theyreplaced him wih Vince youthful.

4-5 weeks.
Same for Matt Leinart taking over for the stiff, Kurt Warner, in Arizona.
