how old is your son? This is different for everyone and it doesn;t sond like there is anything wrong with the boy. Puberty sucks and I can imagine that he is embarrassed if all of his friends are a little ahead of him in this department, but I guess he'll just have to get over it and wait for his voice to break. (he'll probbly be even more embarrassed when he starts squeaking *lol*). My little brother had the same issue - it took him a little longer but there was nothing wrong with him. I think the best you can do is to make sure his self-esteem doesn;t suffer too much by (subtly) boosting it on a regular basis.

I got this information from Wikipedia:

Under the influence of androgens, the voice box, or larynx, grows in both genders. This growth is far more prominent in boys, causing the male voice to drop, rather abruptly, about one octave, probably because the larger vocal folds have a lower fundamental frequency. Occasionally, this is accompanied by cracking and breaking sounds in the early stages. Most of the voice change happens during stage 4 of male puberty around the time of peak growth. However, it usually precedes the development of significant facial hair by several months to years.

Unfortunately, I don't think that I've heard of a treatment for puberty...the only treatment is time.

At 20 I would think that he is pretty much stuck with that voice. Maybe some speech therapy would help (and I'm not even sure of that). Medical treatment? I doubt it but again I'm not sure. It might be best to see a professional. We all have different voices and I think we have to learn to accept what we have (sort of like our penis size huh?). I know a woman who is constantly mistaken for a man on the phone. She now laughs it off and makes jokes about it (including to those mistaken people on the phone!). People generally don't judge people by their voices. I HATE the sound of my own voice but I accept it. If other people don't like it, f--k 'em! Stop worrying mom!
