A vaginal delivery has benefits for both mother and baby, as long as there isn't a reason NOT to have the baby naturally.
Faster recovery for Mom
Passage through the birth canal squeezes fluid out of baby's lungs
Natural hormones are stimulated in Mom
Surgery carries higher risk (including death)
You go home from the hospital sooner
C-section babies higher risk later for infection and asthma
Although vaginal delivery is best for normal pregnancies, there are conditions that could exist that make C-section the safer alternative. Some of these are pre-eclampsia, breech, fetal abnormalities, twins/triplets, placenta previa, previous c-section, and other maternal medical conditions.
You need to find a doctor you trust and discuss your concerns with him/her.

Normal is natural, the way nature intended. I think nature knows best. Do you really think cutting someone open with all the risks of surgery and anesthesia could be better? Don't go for surgery if you don't need it. Normal delivery is best unless there's a major problem and it doesn't work. It's possible the doctor might make more money from doing the surgery, though.

The adrenilin rush for the baby during normal delivery is at the highest level a human can ever experience. It is thought that the trauma of birth is benficial for the baby in a number of ways. It can kick start the baby's respitory system, immune system and may even effect IQ and bonding

You could die having a c-section! Avoid it if possible! My experience was horrendous. I almost lost conciousness during the surgery, they started doing cpr, I got an infection from the surgery 107 degree fever, and the recovery is excruciatingly painful. I am now a strong advocate of vaginal delivery.

With a cesarean delivery, there is a lot more recovery time, because you are recovering from major surgery.
