My son-in-law is 41 years old. He lost his license 3 years ago for DUI and has now stopped drinking. He is required to take a written test to get back his license, and a driver's test. There is no problem with the driver's test, but he has taken the written test which is computerized, at least 5 times and has failed. He is not good with computers. Is there any help available to him? He really needs his license as he has a good job and a good life now. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm afraid he'll give up and it's not good for his self esteem.

Tell him to ask for assistance in taking the test based on what you have said. He may know the answers but the way they are written may be confusing him. Maybe if someone could read them to him it would help. What is happening is not at all unusual.

First get a book from DMV and read it over a couple of dozen times,
the computer is just multiple choice so all you need to do is hit the right key, you don't need to be a computer wiz and if you have a problem ask the attendant for help.

Practice, practice, practice. Study, study, study. Do not blame it on the computer. The questions are the same. If you know the right answers then you will pass. Operating a computer just requires more practice. Buy him a used computer for fifty bucks and set him loose.
