My pregnant wife forgot to pay for the bus and was caugt by an inspector, she also produced my student oyster card which was taken from her since my monthly pass had expired the day before (she didn't know if its expiration) - what should I do? Should I call TFL and try to get my card back (whats the penalty for not paying a fare?) or should I apply for another Oyster card?

Whats the penalty that TFL usually charges for this type of infraction?

The problem is that your Oyster card is registered. So if you are trying to get another one, they will know that it is you. There should be no penalty on you because there's no proof that you willfully gave your wife the card. If there's any penalty, it would be on your wife. I guess they would contact her one way or another to pay for the penalty. You should be also able to retrieve the card from TfL by claiming that it was taken from you without your knowledge.

unless you had a yearly travel card credited to your Oyster card, I wouldn't worry about it. I have never heard of anyone having their oyster card taken away from them regardless of whether they were ticket less or not. It only cost £3 to obtain a new oyster card. I have 3 at home because I keep loosing them.

Just buy another one. Credit it, and carry on travelling. They are starting to really crack down on fare dodgers newer days. This time next year, people could end up in court for not having a ticket. you'll be fine.

its your oyster card so get it back. if you write to TFL you might may get a good response, but you will need a good reason for being ticketless.

Apply for 2 cards. You both need them. On second thought, apply for 3 cards.

You should just forget about oysters and move on to shrimp! They taste better and are not hard shelled like your problem.

who cares, just get another, or if you have to pay, then start an argument with them to get your old card back, refuse to pay any fines, and start accusing them of something, it always works
