i had it hooked up properly throuh the dsl modem.. it gives a message saying dialing through miniport wan..... then it starts over. i un hook it and the dsl is working fine . are their config settings that need to change?

Yes you definitely need to configure the router in order for it to work I highly recommend you reading the manual. If you did not get any manual with the router please go to linksys.com and download one. Setting up a router involves logging in to it usually linksys default address is 192.168,1,1 with admin as password no user name. Then you need to configure it according to the ISP setup that you have I.E. static dynamic IP and such. Only then you can access the Internet through it.
