You cannot protect ideas per se; however you can protect the representations of those ideas. Let me give you a couple "for instances:"

* You have advertising copy for your web site that is unique & original. You would apply for a copyright

* You have a name, logo, slogan, etc that you are using in connection with your goods and/or services. You would apply for a trademark.

* You have a new & novel idea for an invention. You would apply for a patent.
