I will be there between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am... does anyone have any suggestions of things that will be open or comfortable places to sleep? I'm basically trying to kill 8 hours. I am North American.

I often use going to a side hotel for a nap.
Near the airport is Sofitel Athens Airport hotel, which I prefer. It has also two very nice restaurants: the “Karavi” which is located on the 9th floor and the restaurant “Mesoghaia” which is located on the ground floor . “Mesoghaia” is also equipped with TV screens providing up-to-date flight information.
You can also spend your spare time in the swimming pool, fitness center or sauna (available only to the guests of the hotel and free of charge). You can also take care of yourself in Sofitel's beauty corner (hairdressing saloon, massage, face and body treatment). Sofitel is only 20 meters far from airport!
If you cannot live the airport there are many other restaurants (see the link) inside that.
Then, if you have time go for shopping (inside and very closed are many shops).
You will have free internet access, and free drinking water from fountains . Toilets are always very clean.
You can also follow a two-hour site tour in airport. (see the link)
