I am having a difficult time getting proper documentation required by S.S. for a name change?

Good luck. Go to socialsecurity.gov and present the problem. I do think you have a problem though.

I just changed my name because of marriage. I took in my new updated driver's license and my passport still in my old name. Easy as pie.
