Chiropractic is founded on the principle that the Central Nervous System (the brain and nerves) controls EVERY bodily function, and if the spinal column is misaligned (what chiropractic calls a subluxation), it could be pinching/affecting/damaging the nerves that run out between the vertebrae. A pinched nerve can result in pain, numbness and tingling, or any type of general malfunction of that corresponding body part.

This is why chiropractic is so much more than just "neck and back pain." Our nerves control EVERY part of us, which is why chiropractic has shown great success in treating chronic childhood ear infections, allergies, headaches, chronic fatigue, carpal tunnel syndrome, and sometimes infertility (look it up if you don't believe me) etc etc. Now, I'm not saying chiropractic is always a guaranteed cure for these things, but it has definitely been shown to help.

Chiropractic is a complementary and alternative health care profession which aims to diagnose, treat, and prevent mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their effects on the nervous system and general health. Chiropractors believe subluxations of the spine interfere with the body's self-regulating mechanisms. Despite a lack of conclusive scientific evidence, most chiropractors believe that adjusting subluxations will eliminate obstructions to healing and help many disorders including low back pain, asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome, painful menstrual periods, migraine and menopausal symptoms. Chiropractic care emphasizes passive manual treatments such as spinal adjustments and manipulation of the extremities.

A practitioner who cracks backs! (Sorry, I mean 'adjusts'...I used to work in a chiropractor's office, and they 'adjust subluxations' apparently).
