How far apart do the posts in a fence need to be when using 4'x6' fence panels?

They need to be 6' apart. It means the panels are 4' high by 6' long. You'll need to get a level and make sure you keep all of the posts panels level. A chainsaw works great for cutting the top of the posts to the correct height, just be careful not to injure yourself.

Six feet. Use a level on them to be sure that they are straight up and down.
