My daughter poop has been green (dark forest green) for the last couple days. She just started bananas in her rice cereal. Could this be the cause. Or, could it be something more serious?

Note: The consistency is solid and she does not poop often to call it diarrhea.

Welcome to the days of colorful poop! Yes, it is probably the bananas. You will continue to see new colors with new foods ~ my favorite was the fluorescent yellow-green color my son's poop turned after eating birthday cake with bright blue frosting (due to the food dye). As long as the consistency is OK and she's pretty regular she's probably fine.

Please speak to your doctor.

If the body does not absorb all the iron consumed, the iron may stain the poop green, the color of iron (II) salts. Ordinarily, the green color may be masked by the normal brown poop color, but if digestion is thrown off by illness so that bilirubin is less concentrated in the intestine, the green color may become apparent. This can happen when a person is afflicted with diarrhea.
Green poop in sick babies may come from iron in baby formula not being properly absorbed, or by green pigments in bile salts (again, green from iron).

My son did the same thing the doctor explained to me that it was her digestive system becoming used to a new food and to only be worried if the poop was very dark black as that could mean blood in the stools but other than that I think it's prob very normal if you feel unsure just ask your doctor this site has helped me alot

Babies poop will change depending on what you feed them. So I wouldn't worry just yet. Just watch out and watch for any other signs of sickness. If she seems otherwise OK and behaving normally, she'l be just fine. Like I said, the poop will change depending on what you feed her. Sometimes you may even find whole bits of whatever you feed her like corn, peas, or other stuff. Yucky, I know. But that's life.

It's completely normal. It's her digestive system maturing. By the time she's had all four cereals and all the different types of baby foods available, you'll have seen a rainbow in her diaper, trust me! Just wait until she eats raisins and carrots. LOL!

However, if her stool is black, that means there's blood in it, and you should take her to the ER immediately.

Don't worry. If is not white she's fine. When poop turn white is a bad thing. That's what my doctor said.

most likely, if she isnt badly consipated, then it is just the change. when i changed my daughter from breast milk to formula, hers changed and i asked my docter and she said it is perfectly normal for it to change color when you make a change in her food
