I’m doing an assignment on mental disorders, it would help me out tremendously if someone could give me some information on this.
What are the past and present techniques of treating those disorders?

Numerous medications, particularly mood stabiizers such as lithium, valproate, and tegretol, are used to treat bipolar disorder. Psychotherapy is also used.

Professional counselling and psychotherapy, sometimes with hypnosis, is often the treatment of choice for multiple personality disorder.

The corner stone when treating schizophrenia is with antipsychotic drugs, or neuroleptics, such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), clozapine (Clozaril), haloperidol (Haldol),
risperidone (Risperdal), olanzapine (Zyprexa), quetiapine (Seroquel), aripiprazole (Abilify).

In the past electroconvulsive therapy and drastic measures such as lobotomy were used to treat many mental illnesses. In the past hospitalization was used more frequently than today, often involuntary hospitalization. People were sometimes considered "lunatics" and placed in "asylums".

lithium on all accounts... makes the patient feel lobotamized but the symptoms will cease.
For bipolarism there are a lot of people living with it just taking some antidepressents .. and some who are on disability because its so severe.. that one changes greatly between people.
Also neuroleptics are common to fight the pyschosis that comes for most people with any of the above problems
