An apartment complex owner was having tons of problems with one of his 10 floor apartment bulidings. The laundry room on the second floor was constantly flooding which caused the ceilings of half of the tenants on the frst floor to have water damage. The seventh floor needed repainting every two weeks because of vandalism and graffiti. To add icing to the cake, the elevator was always malfunctioning. This building was going to bankrupt him (with repairs) if he didn't come up with a solution. He talked to a contractor and was told that the best solution was to service the washing machines and elevator then get rid of 1 level in the building. By eliminating a floor, he would lose the rent from those apatments but would come out on top at the end of the day (less water, electricity, repairs etc for that floor) The owner followed the suggestion of the contractor and everything was better than he ever would have expected.

What floor do you think the contractor removed and why??

I would've guessed the first floor, because of the water damage, but you can only remove the tenth floor without making the whole building collapse, so I'll say the tenth floor. If he services the washing machines, that'll put an end to the water damage. I guess the landlord could have the elevator go all the way to the roof (where the 10th floor used to be).

I think the 7th floor because the problems on the 2nd floor and the elevator are already solved (fix the washing machines and the elevator). The graffiti problem is still there so getting rid of the 7th floor should solve it.

He eliminated the apartments on the first floor. Water damage is more expensive to fix in the long run than the grafitti on the seventh.

He moved the washing machines to level one, and took out the FLOOR only (the ceiling for level one) and made the first two levels into one level with a very high ceiling!
