I'm going with no. I will not listen to you if your name is MESS. Try a little harder. Actually... wait. How old are you? Are you starting a rock band or a pop girl band? Are you playing your own instruments?
If you are under 15, you most likely aren't doing this in seriousness so it won't matter what you call your band.
If you are starting a rock band, get a guy. All girl bands suck (and I am a female and very feminist, I just know that bands do better with males in them... think The Donnas, Lillix... not too good.)
If you are trying to start a girl band, the Spice Girls broke up years ago and unless you are all really hot and planning to wear skimpy outfits and do provocative dancing like the Pussycat Dolls, there is no market for you right now.
If you are playing your own instruments and you are good at doing so, you may have a chance. A small one, of course, but a chance. Just don't sing about how depressed you are and how you cut yourself at night. Those bands are really dumb and you don't need to be pretending you are suicidal if you really aren't.
What about the Fall Out Girls? ahaha! AAS? (another attempt at success/suicide, whichever way you are trying to go with your music) Try acronyms for short catchy phrases. Or name yourselves after something meaningful, like the Dresden Dolls.

You might think it's clever-- but that's because you know the names behind it. Think about all the people who just hear "mess" as their first impression and don't know you from Adam. They very well might just tune you out before giving you a chance. Come up with something that stands on its own merit-- something that works and sounds good no matter there's some little back story behind it or not.

I don't think the name of the band is a big selling point anymore. I think the music (and more importantly, the image of the band in today's world) has to be fresh.

My band is Plan B. We were going to call it Batteries Not Included.
Take regular phrases and use them....it sounds really cool.

hi girl!
yeah!! it is cool!! "M.E.S.S." stands for the names of the band members, doesn't it?
for you to know, the most important in a band are the members. w/o them, there would be no bands at all!!
it is cool if the name of your band came from the names of the members of it.
it shows unity and friendship!!
and another thing, just don't be bothered of the "MESS",
believe me, you're no mess at all!!
good luck!!
