First, this is a cultural anthropology question, and I am a Bioarchaeologist. I will try and answer it anyway.

The question refers to culture and counterculture. Group ethics are cultural, meaning that they are formed and passed down through interraction and reinforcement. These values represent the purported values of the group as a whole.

Individual ethics represent the experiences of the individual, their parents, and interractions with the group. There are always some countercultural aspects to individual.

The individual and the group don't completely mesh because of the individual's right to disagree with the complete value set of the group. No one individual will agree with all the "rules" of the group.

We all have different experiences in life and it's from these past experiences and values we get from our parents and teachers and society that dictate our beliefs and ethics.

How can you expect someone from a poor developing war-torn, starving country to have the same ethics or beliefs as someone from Beverly Hills?
