I write a lot of poetry, 40+ pages, and it is dark, but the feelings mostly come from remembering when my mom left my dad for about 3 years and also whenever my friends or relatives come over they always like my older sister more than me. Jealousy over my sister and anger to my parents.

Write what ever your feelings tell you to write. Some may be happy and some may be dark but thats life. Life is a mixture of Light and Dark. With out the difference, wouldnt life be pretty boring?

I write dark. Very dark.
Nothing is more boring than poems about flowers dancing gaily in the breeze on a warm summer's eve.
Write about things that affect the reader strongly. I like to write about death, murder, sex, unfaithfulness, religion, etc.

I'm a writer but not a poet, at least not usually or consistently. The few times I have written poems it is triggered by something felt profoundly.
