simple: it will be bad for the energy businesses. It will cost a lot of money to bring up standards and they don't want to pay for it.

Because it would hurt our economy, and would have very little impact. The estimated impact of the treaty would be a less than 1% reduction in the supposed problem emissions, which isn't enough to do anything. We should ruin our economy for that?
Kyoto also allows other countries to keep pumping out emissions; it seems aimed mostly at developed Western countries. Kyoto was rejected in a bipartisan vote in the Senate. Bush just did the sensible thing and tossed it out.
It was a useless document that didn't fix the problem but involved huge costs. That's why the signatory countries aren't complying, either.

Simply put, the Kyoto agreement puts America on an unequal playing field with non-Kyoto nations. Many other nations in the world, including Great Britain, are turning their backs on Kyoto in favor of internal regulations. We need to have all resources available if we wish to win the economic war. Kyoto just limits us.

Because America is run by the businesmen who use all this energy. Plus the Americans are a very insular race who do not think of anyone else but themselves. Did you know 95% of the population do not hold a passport?

This Allgore treaty imposes sanctions and limits on the US and to a lesser degree Canada and Europe. Wreck our economy which is based on cheap energy in return for moving even more jobs and mfg offshore to countries not sanctioned? Doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

For a lot of reasons, one of which is that it allows the creation of an UNEVEN playing field whereby other countries do NOT have to adhere to the same environmental standards as we would have to. What, so their pollution is not as "bad" as ours? Did you ever voluntarily go into a fight (physical or economic) with one hand tied behind your back?
