Now this is really a new one!
How can sexuality (straight or alternate or whatever) make world a better place, reduce poverty and starvation in Africa, and solve the oil crisis, or make people more considerate than they want to be right now?
We blame politicians for everything. In the history ofcivilization, tose who wish to rule are the ones least suited to do so. So anyone who wishes to be made the president should on no cost be allowed to become the president. The basic rule to grabbing power is that you should f#u#K#c up the country, and people.
Perhaps they are afraid that the gays will f#u#k#c up the world better than they (politicians) can!

Poorly worded question... I mean, obviously they don't fear that the world will become a better place... it's a hot button issue meant to bring conservatives to the polls in November... notice the last time we heard about it: November '04. It's a tactic that shows their base where they stand... People get heated over gay marriage, abortion, flag burning... so the right likes to bring those up when it's time to vote... that's all it comes down to... after November, we won't hear about it again... Unless, of course they actually pass the amendment... then, a huge backlash is likely and things will go in the opposite direction (see: Civil Rights Movement... look at the proposals made by our goverment before this time... then see the way people reacted... it was too extreme, just as revoking rights of certain citizens will be too extreme to stand for very long now.) So speak out, VOTE, and this will all work out for the best...

Best case scenario: 50% of the population will vote against things that appear to be in support of Gay rights. (see recent Gallup poll on Homosexual Marriage ban for confirmation of that statistic). Still another 17% of the population doesn't care either way, so you aren't winning their votes by supporting it. For the purposes of national elections, that leaves a slim 33% of people who support gay rights, and for what percentage of those people is this a "swing" issue that will gain you their votes? It is just not politically economical to support gay rights unless you are in a more localized area that supports them more closely (say a 90% liberal democratic district). So to answer your question: Politicians are not scared of homosexuals, they just don't get any political mileage out of them. Also, homosexuals don't make the world a better place any more than heterosexuals.

I have to disagree, Gay's and the "Gay life style" survived for thousands of years "underground" I don't have a problem with gays as long as they act half way normal in public. Most don't and their "prance " and "pretty in pink under panties" attitude makes me sick. I have an attitude of live and let live but Gay's are pushing the subject to much. ,,,Despite what they say and what they want, Their life style is NOT an acceptable form of union, It was and is the Gay society that was ravaged and spread the most AIDS. Marriage would give them no more rights than They already have Thur other channels except it would in their minds "justify" their perverted life style.. The one thing it would due is make insurance companies and employeers offer insurance for their spouses, So that when one of them comes down with AIDS they have coverage.....By the way it would raise the cost of insurance offered to the rest of us..by about double....I say if they want the life style then they should suffer the cost...Not the American public
My opinion If you don't like the Laws of this Country...Move to China, or an Arab nation where they give all people preforming Gays sex and equal opportunity............to fill in a hole in the ground..
Other wise live here, understand you are not deemed normal and live with it and Shut up about it.....

Charles W is reading his bible to hard.... It's only a topic because of the Republican party. Republicans realize that most of the baby boomers, churches, militias are against it and they thrive on these people for votes. You really honestly cannot say that God dissaproves of it because of the bible. The bible has been rewritten thousands of times, how accurate can it really be! Basically Republicans found a nich in Hating and discriminating against Gay people so there running with it. They have lost all value of what they stand for as a political party. I'm not gay I just think its sad to punish someone or a group to get reelected to office.

How the heck can the world be a better place? Homosexuality is wrong! This entire WORLD is based on Families! Families of a MAN & WOMAN! And politicians-well 99% of them-are FOR FAMILIES! Not breaking up that union of a man & women..

Like Davycakes says politicians aren't afraid of gays, they are afrraid to lose support of rich, ignorant, bigots and fundimentalists who give them money.
Politicians MUST have money and only the rich will give it to them. Many rich folks and rich organizations are actively anti gay.
Money makes the world go round....a marc an yen a buck or a pound.. it make the world go round.

God created Adam (a man) and Eve (a woman) as a couple and destroyed Soddom and Gommorah because of Sodomy which is what gays do. I guess that's why politician's are afraid may be. Affect social order

No. I think that for the most part, American's don't want to recognize gay marriages. I certainly don't. Marriage is between one man and one woman for life.
I think that the politicians are either voting their conscience, or they don't care one way or the other and they're pandering to their constituancy.
But I sincerley pray that our leaders do not allow homosexuals to be 'married' under the law. God forbids it.
