Indian Democracy can be called as biggest experiment of 20th century. On line with British Parliament, India choose to have monumental head of state with all powers with Prime Minister led Government which enjoy majority in lower house of parliament. Being largest democracy in world, there were lot of challenges starting from making aware people aware of their rights to make democracy successful. If we think in retrospective we will find that Indian democracy has been partially successful. Though there is lot to show like democracy prevailed in India and there were no instances of dictatorship as happened in neighbouring countries, also we got a lot from developing social democratic structure with government stake in base industry to enabling private ownership in other sectors, green revolution, advances in space, nuclear and other research, going towards IT Giant so despite lot of hue and cry, we have achieved a lot however on flip side we have piled up corruption, lethargy, red tapism, inspector raj, sofa set leaders and so on.

Now it is crucial time to rethink and remove these black spots from our democracy and make it all successful democracy. Good luck to all of us.

If you really heard someone say "America is a democracy" they were either lying or stupid... The USA is a Democratic REPUBLIC.....you elect Representatives by "direct democracy", and then those Representatives are OBLIGED BY LAW to vote as THEY see fit, not as a majority of their constituents might want... If your Founders had intended a "direct democracy" with mob rule, you would have a Parliamentary Democracy rather than a Democratic Republic....
