Dear Mossi,
Very Simple:
Imagine team A is attacking and Team B is defending.for sure there is a space between B defenders and their goalkeeper.OK?
now A players should pass the ball to one of their players to score a goal.If the player who is going to receive the ball and score it locate between the above mentioned space,Then he is in Offside.
Please check the link below on pages 60-66.
Some possible Offsides are describe by pictures:

A player is in an offside position if
he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.

ok.
its hard to explain w/out a sketch but here we go.
when a player on the offending team kicks the ball foreward, and at that same instant another player on the offending team is closer to the goal side than any player on the defending team, excluding thier goalie.

basically, you can't have fast breaks like in basketball. if someone's passing to a person who's going towards the goal, he can't kick the pass unless the person going towards the goal is behind a defender.
