Neither and both, I believe in Libertarianism. Fiscal responsibility coupled with personal freedom and responsibility. I think a few of the previous people who have answered you're question are complete boneheads and don't know the first thing about how our system works or how best to effect positive change in our society. Many people resort to slander and name calling when they don't understand and/or don't have a coherent answer for something (yes I am aware of the irony of what I just said). I am financially Conservative. That does not mean that I only like white rich people, that I only care about myself or that I hate the notion of helping someone out of a jam with a little government assistance now and then. It does mean that I think the government spends WAY too much of our money on stupid crap and perpetuates a culture of people relying on the government for everything. If the government didn't confiscate so much of our money to fund wars and keeping so many of our people in prison for non violent offenses and stupid pork barrel projects, we would be better left to be able to take care of ourselves. I am also a social liberal. Conservatives often believe that they know best how I should run my life and that they should be able to dictate to me that I should not be allowed to drink alcohol or at least on any perticular day, or that my children should be taught a certain religion in school. I believe that I own my body and if I want to buy a 6 pack on Sunday, that is my decision, not anyone else's and that the public schools in this country should be neutral. There should be NO religious indoctrination or endorsement of ANY religion in our publically funded schools.

Lastly, I do not pity the people who are content to live their lives dependent on the government rather than pull themselves up by the boot straps and improve their situations. It's one thing to need a little help sometimes but to live you life reliant on government assistance is pretty irresponsible. On the same token, I do not envy the wealthy. I do not believe in taxing the wealthy at a higher rate, I believe in equal taxation, equal oportunity. (Allow me to clarify, I am not wealthy by any standard, but I do provide a decent home for my family. I am probably in the lower to central middle class.) I do not believe in punishing success. I do not believe that most people with money are handed it, some are through inheritance, but I believe that most well to do people get that way through hard work and smart decisions. It is the wealthy after all that start the companies that give us jobs. Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person on welfare?

Liberals have shown themselves as the most hypocritical, dishonest and most hateful group of people in the American political spectrum today.
Take the "If you don't care about anyone but yourself and your wallet..." BS. They spread lies like everyone but dems hate all races other than white and give so many tax breaks to only the wealthy. It doesn't matter that this administration is far more diverse and tolerant than Clinton's. This isn't a socialist country yet they want to tax one group of people more than another just because they're envious of their income. The tax cuts have gone to those who have paid the most taxes...why is that so unfair?
Just look at how hateful they've been since Bush was elected. They even lie about that. Bush has reached out in a far more bipartisan, unifying way than dems ever have and they respond with hate, vilification and sabotage then blame Bush for everything.
While both liberals and conservatives both have good ideas and policies, the amount of hate shown recently makes it rather plain which is ultimately better.

There is a blance of liberal and conservatism in the US. Liberals are normally democrats while conservatives are normally republicans. I believe you need both but I don't particularily care for conservatives. They tend to be religious (let their religion dictate their beliefs) they can't accept change/new people etc.... Liberals can be hard while liberal at the same time It dosen't mean that they will be so lienent to let terrorist run this country. As far as that goes part of the reason why terrorist are giving this country problems are the actions of the bush administration. WE DID THIS TO OURSELVES.

why is it that liberals must resort to demagoguery?

Liberals value centralized government that not only protects rights, but establishes new ones. Right and wrong are organic and not eternal.

Conservatives value decentralized government with few rights that are absolute, and the marketplace provides for entitlements.

One leads to statism the other to oligarchy. Both have flaws and strengths. but as far as what works for the USA...well, whatever political philosophy is in fashion at the time. I trust the voters of this nation.

I lean towards conservative but I have friends that are liberal. There are degrees of extremes on both sides of the fence. The people that are far left extreme have a very wacked out view that spews with hatred for Bush and I don't believe in that ideology.

that is reliable! the biggest distinction is: Conservatives trust in God, smaller authorities, and own accountability. Liberals wade through a psychological ailment and trust (study as dream) that the State (i.e. authorities) ought to play the region of God as a way to create a Heaven on earth (the position there is no choose for extremely own accountability b/c the authorities will make all alternatives for all persons). i'm quite positive that is what the tale above receives at.

i liked cantcu's answer. liberal is the way to go. if you are liberal then you look at every side of a problem before making a choice. if you are conservative then you just kill all who dont agree with you.

Well it depends:

If you don't care about anyone but yourself and your wallet, If you think corporations should pay no taxes and actually get a rebate and think it's fair that oil companies who pay 2,1% of their profits in Taxes while soaking you at the pump. You hate all races except white. you hate welfare, medicaid help for the poor. Believe we should get our troops killed to protect business interest, give tax-breaks and tax cuts to the wralthy, then conservative is for you!

All the rest are Democrats.

You choose!

We need fiscal conservatives and social liberals. You know, someone won't use our tax money to put illegals on welfare, but will leave the gays alone.
